McGuinness for VT Addison-4 House
Affordability and livability
H.887/Act 183, 2024 Yield Bill has increased homeowner's tax bills by an average of 13.8% while students continue to lack proficiency in core academics and are not receiving the services they need. The legislature created a paid committee funded by YOU, the taxpayer, to recommend more education funding legislation. This is not responsible allocation of tax dollars.
H.289 Renewable Energy Standard forces utilities to buy in-state renewable energy, increasing your electric bill by approximately $192 a year. (Meanwhile iSun filed for bankruptcy.)
H.12 "Safe" injection sites serves to draw more drug dealers and addicts to Vermont, and does not help them get sober, but to continue to get high without overdosing - no age restrictions. How is this ethical, compassionate care?
H.681 Act 250 "An act relating to community resilience and biodiversity protection through land use" does not loosen regulations for rural towns. The current legislature is on a path to conserve 50% of Vermont's land by 2050, which will only serve to continue to increase building costs. Towns need control over their own planning and development, free from centralized control through legislation.
