Health Care

Health care costs MUST to go down, and we do this by reducing chronic illness. We need a paradigm shift: health is the norm, not sickness. My participation at the State House as Vermont Family Alliance Policy Analyst has shown me that the current focus is on the financial health of hospitals instead of the health and well-being of Vermonters.

People deserve more options in health insurance, not fewer, and the option to consult with alternative health practitioners under their health insurance plans. A BCBS study in 2007 demonstrated out of 70,274 member-months that those who chose an Independent Physician Association practitioner (chiropractors) as their primary care physician, the outcome over a 7-year period were decreases of 60.2% in-hospital admissions, 59.0% in hospital days, 62% outpatient surgeries and procedures, and 85% decrease in pharmaceutical costs when compared with conventional medicine. This is how we reduce health care costs.

Also, we need fresh, nutritious food provided to school age children who are in need: some school districts already do this well. I think the universal meals program, at a cost of $29 Million, is misguided: we need to provide nutrient-dense food only to those in need.

Vermont is a foodie state with many local organic producers of produce, meats, and dairy. There is plenty of food - getting it to children who need it is another matter that I would be willing to take up. I believe this issue is best addressed in the local community rather than a state mandate in order to ensure we are providing fresh food and not highly processed foods full of processed carbohydrates and seed oils (which destroy mitochondria). Providing nutritious food to children will reduce their incidence of chronic illness later in life, thus reducing expensive medical treatments and interventions later on.

One does not need a medical degree to study and understand these things and implement them, which I have done personally.
